I WANT A REFUND!

After checking my e-mail this morning I perused a couple of sites that I visit regularly. I saw a post on one of my message boards referencing proposed federal government cuts to Public Television. I'm not uber political but in my opinion, with all of the wasteful spending that goes on in our nation, can't they leave Barney and Sesame Street alone? Before the current mentality of "My kid will be a failure in life if they don't go to preschool", Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers were our early classrooms. Ask most anyone that was a child in the last 20 plus years and I bet that they will tell you they watched and can name at least one thing that they had learned from watching. My hope is that they leave public television alone, entertaining and educating America's children can never be considered a waste. This got me to thinking and my fingers to googling, wondering what some of the examples of rediculous government spending were. Here are a few on the jewels I was able to find!

A 17-year study of slang terms used by Puerto Ricans in New York City when under stress. (Over $4.7 million)

A 1-year study to determine why some transsexuals who apply for sex reassignment surgery follow through with it while others don’t. ($7,236)

1.5 million to promote silk production.........in Laos

$410,000 for lavish fixtures in the one office suite at the Transportation Department

1.2 million to subsidize a park in the Galapagos Islands.....(owned by Ecuador)

19.6 million to "aid in the peace process" in Northern Ireland....by paying for golf videos, Irish sweaters and pony trekking centers.

I am sure the list is endless
Let's leave Barney alone or give me a refund, I don't want to pay for another extravagant ball park, another campain I don't agree with or another politician's pricey potty.

Today I am thankful for: chocolate

ITA! Except for the Galapagos thing...my hippy roots show there. Otherwise though, I agree that the other stuff is a waste of money. How the hell am I supposed to get ready in the morning without Barney for Sam to dance to?!
