What a fun day! Of course I couldn't sleep last night and was awake until almost 2, only to have to get up at 6:45 to get the crew ready to go to the city.
Evan thought that it was "THE DAY" (the day to start school) and was actually pretty excited but was happy that he did have one more day with Mom.
Kurt's Dr appt went ok, I guess. His knee has been explained as a miniscus (sp?, I haven't looked it up yet) tear and the initial injury, the Dr believes happened when Kurt had his ATV accident. Following his release from the hospital years ago they drained quite a lot of fluid off of the knee but that is as far as anyone took it and Kurt is the type of guy that will try to super glue a wound closed before letting a Dr deal with it, therefore, the knee hasn't been looked at closely. The recommendation: rounds of cortisone shots to dull the pain and plenty of naproxin OR surgery to remove the damage and look for anything else. Super glue husband decides to opt for the first choice until further notice but is going to have to forgo anything requiring the athletic use of his knee. We did go in the exam room for a few minutes to talk with the Dr, with Kurt and when Lillianne saw them messing with her Daddy she tried to push the Dr's leg away while screeching at him and proceeded to crawl up to Kurt and "protect" him. She kept giving the Dr the "eye" the whole time. She did this when the kids had their physicals for sports and kindergarten, too. What a gift she has been to our family!!!!
The kids were super while we waited, I was so proud of them. I cringe at the thought of sitting in the waiting room with children but they did make us proud. We surprised them with an afternoon at Grant's Farm and lunch out. The weather was fantastic for spending the afternoon outdoors, a little breeze and it never got out of the 70's in the city. Lillianne loved all of the animals, it is so fun now that she is of the age to really enjoy trips like that. Morgan was charged by an ill-tempered pot bellied pig, it was not pretty. I guess she was standing a little too close to the wall of his enclosure, and they are supposed to make great pets....Everybody had a great time and proceeded to take a nap on the way home, including Mommy!
The kids are excited about their return to school tomorrow. Evan wanted to "help" with his lunch. He is so proud of his lunch bag and his backpack. He reminded me to set out his clothes so he would be able to find them in the morning. I assured him they would be there, as would I, to help him along.
Morgan starts volleyball tomorrow afternoon, too. I THINK that she will be opting out of playing P'ville rec soccer after this season. She is frustrated as are most of the girls with the direction the team is going and is very happy with her select team and the skill she is learning there. We'll see what happens, I'm not going to hold her to her decision now but will let it play out over the course of the season. Kurt had to opt out of coaching last week due to the possibility of being out of town with training during the season and is glad that he did in light of today's knee drama. I guess things have a way of working out the way that they are supposed to.
I'm going to try to post pics tomorrow of Grant's Farm and the First Day of School, but the Princess and I are going to be out and about sharing our first day as just the two of us, together!
G'nite!
