No better way to start the day than by taking two of my children to get thier shots..........NOT! Whatever was I thinking when I concluded it to be a good idea to do this without the aid of my husband. We pull up and Evan says, "Oh poor Lilli, she has to get shots!" Morgan and Layne share a secret smile knowing that Evan will be getting his kindergarten shots as well. Evan has not been let in on this little secret yet. I knew that if I was to tell him, I never would have gotten him in the van. I would still be chasing him around the house........
All was well until we heard the nurse say that she was ready for Evan, Little man made a quick inventory of the waiting room, came to the conclusion that there was in fact no other Evan present, other than himself and staged a full blown sit-in. Now picking him up under normal circumstances is no small feat for me, picking him up under duress is a completely different situation, one that required nothing short of super human strength. I finally was able to wrestle him into the room, he was protesting LOUDLY and I held him close. I explained that if he tensed up, it was going to hurt so much more. He wasn't buying it but we managed to get the three shots done, not without trauma and drama but he is good to go until he is 16. We told him this and of course he was adamant that there was NO WAY he was coming back, EVER! I told him we would talk about it then, he wouldn't have to come back until he was driving. At 6 this seems like a life time away for him so he is appeased, there's no way I'm toting a 16 y/o in to get his shots! I have been thru the shot process with him several times and still it breaks my heart when he cries, I cry right along with him. It seems such a brutal thing to do but I know that it is so necessary and there is the fact that they won't let you go to school until you have them.
I then had to trade Evan for Lillianne and I just got the sick feeling that this poor, smiling Princess had no clue what was about to happen to her. She snuggled and gave kisses when I was holding her close and I watched that sweet little smile give way to full on shock and anger. She wasn't hurting, she was MAD! She growled at the nurse and the crying stopped the moment we were done. More tears for Mom, anger for Lillianne.....
Layne was ribbing Ev about his shots when I reminded him that he was getting closer to his booster shot, too. This stopped him in his tracks and he wanted to know the date, time and logistics of the impending attack. I can only deduce that he is going to start plotting his counter attack.
I had promised donuts as a treat while Ev was getting his shots, it is amazing what you will offer to try to soothe your babies. Thank goodness we don't hold our 15/16 year olds while they go thru the shot process. Mine would probably be driving hot little convertibles the next day. We went to get donuts but the bakery was closed....oh heck, Evan was mad and I had "promised". Thankfully he was willing to compromise by getting to spend his shopping card at Walmart. I will tell you that we came home with a Hershey Kiss maker and a bank that is a candy vending machine. You put little packets of candy in it and deposit your money, push a button and retrieve your candy. Now when it comes to M&M's there's no way I'm gonna load them into a machine and have to work for them. It is open bag and jump in for me! Evan's Hershey kiss maker requires grinding chocolate and melting chocolate and pouring said chocolate into little molds. Nice clean fun, don't you think............................BLEH!
Those of you that know me well know of my Diet Coke addiction, must have the caffeine to keep the nasty cluster migraines away.....THERE WAS NOT DIET COKE IN THE GARAGE FRIDGE THIS MORNING. Yes, I went thru all of this without my husband and dangit, without my diet coke.

UGH! I feel for you. I caught Em up on her shots a couple of days ago. I wanted to barf on the spot! She screamed like we were setting her on fire.... Thank GOD we are done until school starts because I don't think we could take any more.
I feel your pain...for me it is Diet Pepsi, if we don't have any...people you better watch out!
Have a good one chicky, and I hope the kids are doing well...and you have recovered too!
Call me jaded, but the shots have never bothered me. Could be that stint I did as a blood drawer at the hospital or the fact that I had to see so much worse done to Carson and the other babies in the NICU. There's actually very little that bothers me as far as medical stuff since I work with such sick kiddos. I know it has be hard for other people though. I feel for you having to do two kids' shots in one trip. Yuck! Hope you get to make a Diet Coke run today!
Oh Amy, I feel like such a baby now. I can't imagine how much you had to endure with Carson. I could never draw blood, kudos to you. After being on the other side of the needle in the hospital for over a month, I have serious needle issues. I guess one can never realize with babies and children until you go thru it, what a strong Mommy you must be! I stock piled the Diet Coke! LOL
