Hello friends and family!
It seems like it has been forever since I have had the chance to blog!
With the beginning of school, the kids sports and launching this business, I haven't had a single second to blog.
I'll try to recap the family events of the last few weeks and will try to post some pictures in the next few days!
Evan did wonderfully on his first day of kindergarten. He was so very excited, we had to lay out his clothes, pack his lunch and have everything so so the night before. He went right into his classroom with his big grin in place, gave me a final wave and went happily into this next chapter in his little life. I did well until I had to turn and walk away, my heart then proceeded to shatter into a million or more pieces. I know that this is my job as a mother, to raise my children up to be the best people that they can be and to let them go, stage by stage into thier own lives. While my head knows this, my heart surely struggles.
Morgan is doing great in 7th grade. She made the volleyball team, was the only 7th grader elected to the Student Council Executive Board consisting of 5 seats, was elected to Character club and is playing on two soccer teams. Tournaments with her select soccer team begin in St Louis this weekend. We'll be traveling to IL and TN this season, as well.
Layne loves his teacher and as always, is loving school. He signed up to play soccer but his heart just isn't in the game. He just doesn't care about it one way or the other and I get the feeling he would rather not play. Kurt and I are going to sit down with him, tell him it's ok if he really doesn't want to play. I fear that he felt he should act like he wanted to play b/c of Morgan and then Evan is playing this year. He is more of my little intellectual and has expressed interest in martial arts and Scouting, and really wants to play basketball when he can. It is important to me that the kids realize that they are wonderful for being themselves, that they don't have to do what their siblings do.
Lillianne is just the wonderful little person that she is. None of us can look at her without smiling all of the way from the bottom of our hearts.
Her love is Barney, yes, the purple dinosaur. She demands a Barney video first thing in the morning and will try to get us to let her watch on before bed. Morgan loved Barney but the boys would never watch it, I wonder if it is a girl thing.
Well, after years of trying to find the right venue for my business idea, The Lily Pad Children's Boutique has been launched. When we were living in another town, I had the idea to open a children's resale shop but at the time there was one in each surrounding town. None of these were the type of store that I had in mind but they were there and I watched as these stores, as well as a couple of boutique style stores closed in the area. This left me wondering why they didn't survive and I tabled the idea. I was busy with several small children at home and a real estate career, plans just got put on the back burner. Last year I talked with a girl from my town that had a store in a local small city, they were closing their store and I talked with her about their remaining inventory. I also talked with the owner of a local store that was getting ready to sell but neither of these opportunities seemed to fit with the schedule in my family' lives. Morgan travels with soccer, the boys will be playing sports and we spend a great deal of time at the lake during the summer. I really hated the idea of being tied to a brick and mortar store. I wasn't willing to give up my children's games and our family time.....What was I left with?
It seems that this business would continually present itself in my life, when wondering what I wanted to be doing I kept being brought back to opening a Children's Boutique. Last year I read an article in a business journal that addressed the statistics of e-commerce. E-commerce is growing exponetially each year as people are looking for convenience in their lives. It was so clear then what I should be doing. I use the internet for so many facets of our lives, this is where I could make my dream come to fruition and still have the family life that I aspired to. Believe me, it has not been an overnight venture, I have done so much soul searching and praying over the last year but now am SO excited to be able to announce the Grand Opening of The Lily Pad Children's Boutique!
I hope that you will have the chance to visit and will enjoy your shopping experience there. Please check back often as I will continually be adding new products. I have an exciting maternity line coming as well as beautiful and unique cribs and toddler beds.

Most important note of all: Please pray for those in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast. It is so hard to believe that this can happen in our great nation, it shows us that we are clearly not invincible. My heart breaks when I see the broadcasts, the children, the babies.......the utter devastation of families and lives. Please pray for healing and miracles....Our God is faithful and loving! Please find it in your hearts to donate, even if it is a dollar to The Red Cross or one of the many charities that is offering aid to the victims. Specify that it is for victims of Hurricane Katrina. Another very important thing that we can do is to donate blood. I can't imagine the huge need for blood products in the region. This tragedy should make us all take a step back and be greatful for the things, big and small that we do have in our lives. Be thankful for all of our family because as evidenced, it can all be taken away in a moment. Hug your kids, let your friends and family know that you care.... God Bless!
