Another birthday almost come and gone....they sure aren't as exciting as they used to be but I can be glad that I am still having them, I guess.
It's been a good day. Yesterday evening Layne gave me a Hallmark card and a gift that he had picked out and bought using his own money, not Dad's. The gift was a "Thank You Mom" poem that is in a frame to be displayed. What a sweet boy! My Momma sent me three Longaberger baskets, love them.....my in laws gave me money and Kurt stuffed a beautiful card with cash that is to be "spent only on myself for a shopping spree". I love him.
Hubby took the day off and the kids let me sleep in, I honestly slept off and on most of the morning because I hadn't slept much the night before. Lillianne kept sneaking in to whipser "Happy Birthday Mommy" in my ear every now and then, even giving me light kisses. Morgan tried to get everyone to let me sleep as long as possible because for a birthday suprise she was rearranging and deep cleaning my living room. It looks lovely and that is a great gift from a great daughter! Evan brought me a huge glass of Diet Coke, filled to the brim with my "special ice" (Sonic Ice...yes, they sell it in the bag!!!!) that I keep out in the garage freezer every now and then. He usually greets me in the morning with a Diet Coke (great kid, isn't he) but this morning it was extra special with the special ice. I truly am blessed what the greatest kids!
The kids are all spending the night at their grandparents and Kurt offered to take me anywhere I wanted to go for dinner. My choice....I sent him out for Mexican and some movies. Perfect night!
Mom texted me at midnight (I know, isn't it weird yet great that my Mom texts!) to wish me a Happy Birthday and to tell me that she loves me. I know the day is a bitter sweet one for her since it has been 3 years to the day since Daddy died. Without thinking, I was doing the exact same thing last night as I was three years ago. I was sitting in my chair, with my puppy curled up by my feet, reading. I remember three years ago the phone ringing at 12:30 and I wondered who would be calling so late. It was Mom telling me they were on the way to the hospital, he was already gone but she didn't tell me that then. It made me feel special that last night, right at midnight she texted me. She let me know that the day still is special.
Talk about birthdays, I was listening to Morgan and Lillianne talk this afternoon and Lillianne was asking Morgan what kind of birthday she was going to have. Morgan laughed and told her you don't have themed birthday parties when you turn 17. OH.....MY......GOD..............17!!! My heart broke a little (ok, a lot) when the reality of my first baby girl being 17 in weeks hit. I don't care what she says, I am throwing her a Barney party. I think I will even torture her with the hours upon hours of Barney tapes that I used to sit thru with her. Truthfully, I would give anything to go back to sitting on that couch, snuggling down and watching Barney with my sweet girl.
It's been a blessed and great birthday....g'night.
